ever since i heard this album as a teenager, i was amazed by the songs, the performances, and the great, great guitar solos from Tommy Bolin i have run these solos thru my head a million times, and they have inspired a lot of my guitar playing and licks over the years included in this solo is an amazing display of bends - some rapid fire machine gun picking - a beautiful pace creating tension through-out - drawing your ear in as he skillfully weaves his way up and down the neck through this two and a half minute solo - you won't see anything like that on much of today's releases - Tommy is not trying to be flashy, but his notes are ultimately so sweet and heartfelt, and downright cool, that his playing comes out shining - the whole solo is a climax - every section is a standout part! - there are no boring scales, or lame note choices - he is so sure of every note, instilling meaning into every syllable - every bend (there are tons of great bends! Tommy wouldn't just bend a note and move on - he bent it for all it was worth - often bending a note up to 8-12 times per lick! ) i enjoyed TABBING this out, as i got to dig into all the ear candy - all the notes you never noticed before - the frosting on his tasty cake - how it all pieces together - and i came out loving, appreciating, and enjoying it all even more than when i started! he is one of my favorite guitar players, and i sometimes wonder about all the awesome music we missed out on with his early passing at age 25!
